New bike new shoulder!
Here is a pic of my new bike. It is sweet! It is the most amazing piece of machinery I have ever owned. I briefly rode it down the mountain here at Jackson Hole on my lunch break the other day, my work is at the base of the Grand Teton Mt. Ski Area, and it was amazing. It rides better than any of the dirt bikes I had when I was a teenager. I was going at least 40 mph down a bumpy rocky slope with streams that I was able to bunny hop over!
It's a Specialized Enduro, and I can't wait until next spring to ride, in addition I can't wait til my shoulder heals.
I have recieved what is called an AC separation. In the normal shoulder the clavicle is securly attached to the shoulder via ligaments. I have what is called a class 3 tear, that is out of 5. It's almost completely detached.
I was jumping my new bike on this dirt mound by my house. I was jumping from the back side to the front side. My last jump consisted of ok air, ok speed, and soft dirt on the landing. My bike sunk into said soft dirt at a slight angle. The bikes momentum was now translated into my physical body continuing in the straight line that my bike could no longer keep because it had landed at an angle pointing slightly right, and had it's momentum halted by the soft dirt. I however continued in the same direction at the same speed as the laws of physics dictate and cleared the rest of the twelve foot high mound of dirt to come to a resting spot at the bottom.
I remeber the impact because I could not remeber the last time I had hit my head that heard. My jaw slammed closed on the impact, I distinctly remember the sound of my teeth slamming against each other. Luckily I still have all of them in the same condition that they started the day in.
I jumped to my feet and immediately began the "that fucking hurt" pacing routine. At this time my falling pants caught my attention as the impact had unbuttoned and undone the fly. I immediately closed them when an interesting sensation overcame me.
It was something like listening to ball bearings with dirt in them, lots of dirt. But yet it seemed to be reverberating through my body, and I was in fact feeling this. Instinctively my hand, my right hand, went to my left shoulder. At this time it felt a bone protruding from the surface of what used to be a smooth area. I paniced.
I walked my uninsured ass back to my house looked up the hospital's address online and drove down there. $700.00 later I'm in some pain, but alive and they say I will recover the use of my shoulder, although I will always have the bone sticking up as it does in the above picture unless I decided to have what has been described to me as the purely cosmetic surgery to have it fixed. Bumpy shoulder it is.
